automation or shortcut for repeating worksteps possible?
Hello,
I am working on projects with hundreds of short clips and often I have to do the same couple of steps again and again. For example I have short slowmotion clips. Now for each clip I have to select it, hit cmd-j, change the speed to 50%, de-select frame blending, hit ok, then apply fade-in and fade-out.
Although this may sound like not much of an effort, when you do it hundreds of times, it becomes really tedious. Unfortunately when copying timing setting from one clip to other clips, there is no option to select ripple-sequence, which is essential.
I have searched the forums and found other posters that had similar issues, but no solution for the problem. As far as I understand, there is no way to automate this in final cut.
I don’t know much about applescript, but is there a way to write a script that does this?
Since there is no way to de-select frame blending without the mouse, I think it might be impossible, right?
Is there at least a way to create a shortcut in final cut or with apple script, that makes things like a fade-in and fade-out for video and audio to beginning and ending of a clip?thanks,

If you use paste attributes, can’t you get them all to take on the opacity and speed changes? It should ripple the sequence by default.
FCP 7 isn’t scriptable BTW. Don’t know about FCP X’s capability there.

unfortunately it doesn’t work. The speed changes, but the length of the clip is not adjusted. So the clip will cut off after half of it is played. Also frame blending is activated instead of de-activated as in the clip you copy the settings from. Is there really no way to simplify this? Any idea about the transition thing?

The fades, if made as an opacity change, should work with the paste attributes command.
I played around with the paste attributes command, and the behavior I saw was the same… I wonder though if you put TWICE the length you need for the shot then say make it 50% speed, thus cutting it back in half to what you really want shot wise might work? But then the fades would have to be re done, but that could be done with a second paste attributes command.
Sorry don’t see a way to change this behavior… I thought it would follow the original speed change’s dialog box’s settings, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.
