Sony HDV on Panasonic tape to FCP Apple Pro Res

Not sure what’s happening, but be sure the start/stop detection is turned on in the log and capture window in the Clip Settings tab. If it is and it still fails, try trashing your FCP preference files. If it still fails, then I’d just not use that tape any more..?

Thanks Jerry. After I posted the next three tapes worked with separate files for start stop and then the last two reverted to one big clip capture. Apparently no change in recording settings for each tape and definitely no change in capture settings. I then tried trashing the preferences. No change. Very strange.

The start/stop feature relies on the time of day code laid down by HDV and DV. It jumps forward in time each time you pause then start again. If this signal isn’t found (likely because of the tape stock or the way the camera is tracking the tape I’ll wager) then it can’t perform the function.

It’s not your settings, it’s related to the above in some way I’ll bet.

I just talked the camera operator for this project and I think you have pointed us in the right direction! She didn’t have the camera date and time set until the the forth tape – the one that started working.

You’d think the camera lays it down no matter what… but apparently not.

I’d just capture the whole tapes then, and subclip the long captures.
