If you place a marker in a clip, it will not show up in the Canvas when that clip is added to a sequence. If you place a marker as a sequence marker it will.
Markers in clips only show up in the Viewer, and they don’t ever show during playback. Only during a stop over the marker itself.

I’ll tell ya David. Any more, an editor has to become a pretty savvy computer user. Don’t have to know all of the IT, but a clean install is something everyone should understand how to do. Google is your friend. If you google “how do I cleanly install Lion”. I’ll bet 37 pages come up. I’ve not tried this, so put egg on my face and say there were only 34 or something… LOL
But seriously, you do need to be somewhat computer savvy to successfully run a stable NLE no matter whose we’re talking about. FCP X makes it all easier I must say. Kudos for that at least. Face it, understanding what you work on is a must, right?
I’d need help with drill presses.

Perform a clean install. This means backup your startup disk. Cloning is common for this using something like carbon copy cloner. (just google it) then install Lion on a nice empty drive. Update it all the way, then install Studio 2009. You’ll not need to install FCP 6 first, you’ll just need it’s serial number, and the one for your FCP 7 install.
If you don’t do this, you see all sorts of wierdness.

How did you “convert” the files? Try using MPEG Streamclip, and and a codec that FCP Xpress can support. HDV, or the AIC codec probably.

I had to deal with this once, and I had the client export QT movies using the system that recorded the file. Can you do this?

Not really, I’m sure there might be some sort of database software that might read and log this info, but not a plugin to FCP directly.
FCP X is attempting to make this happen for sure.
