Try a two pass encode… or a very high single pass setting like above 6.5 mbps… Or if this still isn’t satisfying, put compression markers in the middle of the transitions that don’t look up to par. Don’t think there’s software out there that does much better than this other than Compressor. BitVice was a popular encoder before Compressor was updated a while ago, might take a look at that.

Don’t know about the upgrade paths for academic versions of Boris and Combustion… but you can bet there will be updates so they’ll work on the next gen macs… At least the next gen software will..
contact Boris and Discreet about it I’d think…

Make sure the settings to add back the pulldown are correct… and also make sure the DSR is set to e/e… otherwise you’ll get the behavior you see.

They will never run on a dual core don’t think.
The hack isn’t the way to go though, a $199 upgrade to the studio is however. Apple’s taking orders…

I’m pretty sure you need an UVW-1800 to get accurate edits… The 1400 is a player/recorder, and the 1800 is an editing deck…

loop the signal through the video monitor to the flat panel and you’ll need an adapter to do so I’d think. Decklink and AJA make the boxes I believe. Here’s the solution from AJA anyway: https://aja.com/hdp.htm
