Well… that’s not quite right, when the conversions are going on, the Decklink and Matrox products are using the computer’s CPU for the heavy lifting (taxing your system for other purposes like RT playback) where the AJA products do the job internally. Plus the Io XT has the only T-Bolt connections that loops through, so in every other case you can’t use a second computer display with your system (they have to be at the end of the TB chain).
If it were me, I’d buy the Io from AJA for this reason alone. Costs more, does more.
Hoewever in the OP’s case, he’s also going to need an Analog to SDI converter to capture the old VHS, Hi 8 etc. Plus he gets desk control with the Io XT.
I could never give up a second computer display for my main editing system..

Trash your render files. I’ve seen this behavior when they go wonky, so might fix you right up.

I mean you should take a clip that’s h.264 now, and export it as proves. Then import that proves version of your file and see if the problem doesn’t go away when you put it in a sequence matching it’s settings. Your problem may well be the fact that FCP does not in any way support h.264 editing. You have to make the source become ProRes before you edit it.

Try transcoding the H.264 you have captured to ProRes, put it in a sequence matching it’s settings, then see if the result isn’t better.
How are you connecting from your game box to the computer?

The stutter is likely caused by the G-raid not keeping up with playback. The I/O gear won’t help with this. You need faster drives to get the frames from dropping.

Don’t capture to H.264, it’s not supported in FCP for editing. It’s a delivery format.
Capture to ProRes instead. ProRes 4:2:2 or ProRes HQ might fix you right up.

What are you using for a scratch disk? If it’s not really fast you’ll see this problem.

mini DV and DV are basically the same format Standard definition video at 720X480 in frame size.
HDV is HD video and can be either 720p or 1080 in size. Either format should be displayed on a camera’s on screen information during playback.
