    To add a key point to Mike’s comment; the WDTv has HDMI out.

  • May- Playback your tape via HDMI directly to a HD monitor. How does the footage look now? If it has issues you need to work with the camera settings. If the playback is clean from your camera then you need to work on your FCP settings. Do not trust your computer monitor…. only judge via a video card to an external monitor. If you don’t have a video card you’ll need to export back to the camera and play via HDMI.

    Richard- Ok, you are at the end of the road. I presume your 4 tb G-Tech is Raid 0. Because you say the set-up is new you probably have one failing drive. If you can isolate the bad drive here is a link for some last resort remedies;

    Richard- Are the drives still spinning up? Have you tried Disk Warrior? Many of us here have used it successfully.

    Rich- You are starting to talk to yourself. Can I guess…. you are in the middle of a long edit session with no one else around. Hide FCP. Take the dog for a walk.

    Andrei- My guess is you have a frame rate mismatch between your audio clip and your sequence.

    Matt- Just make sure the Easy Setup you want is in the proper folder. Another place to look is MacHD>Applications>Final Cut Pro Additional Easy setups. A quick way to find which folder is active is to create a phony custom Easy Setup within FCP then go to the desk top and search the MacHD for the phony setup. Bingo…. that’s where you put you put the setups you want active. The extension for setups is .fcpre.

    Louis- It has been our experience that HDV is WAY more sensitive than DV when it comes to digitizing. We had to experiment via trial and error with all kinds of different machine control protocols to find a stable communication from the feeder decks to FCP. I remember one issue was drop frame/non-drop frame in Audio Video settings. Once we found a stable machine control we made a Custom Easy Set-up for when we used that deck. Don’t think you can hit Capture Now and come back in an hour with HDV.
