  • Timecode Problems While Capturing

This question has to do with capturing whole tapes at a time. So far I have only used DV video on FCP. I’ve had no problems with capturing that. I had set it to “warn about timecode breaks after” and it recorded the whole tape no problem. Now I am working with HDV for the first time, I still have it set to “warn after” yet sometimes I still get the alert about a timecode break and it stops the capturing process, also it is making a new clip everytime there is a stop/start on the tape. Does it have something to do with it being HDV? I don’t see why that would matter. I just want to capture a whole tape as one clip. I’ve gone through all the settings I could think of and don’t see anything to fix it and like I said I have it set to “warn after” what else do I need to do? This is so frustrating….

Louis- In Log and Capture select the Clip Settings tab and de-select create new clip on Start/Stop.

Thanks, that part was annoying too but the main thing is this timecode break stuff, any ideas on that? Shouldn’t it not be doing that if I have it set to “warn after”?

Louis- It has been our experience that HDV is WAY more sensitive than DV when it comes to digitizing. We had to experiment via trial and error with all kinds of different machine control protocols to find a stable communication from the feeder decks to FCP. I remember one issue was drop frame/non-drop frame in Audio Video settings. Once we found a stable machine control we made a Custom Easy Set-up for when we used that deck. Don’t think you can hit Capture Now and come back in an hour with HDV.
