    Any thoughts, ideas on Data recovery, I found a conversation back in 2004 but times have changed I believe. I have ‘lost’ 220 hours of media on my new 4tb G-Tech, ouch. I have tried TechToolPro4 which I ran for 7 days 🙂 it showed me the media but when I went to open the files it told me they were not movie files, gulp.

    Do you have the master tapes? Master tapeless backups?

    Project file?

    thanks shane, yes, all my tapes are available and the project file was saved to my backup drive, I just never gave it a thought to back up the media. So if the worst comes i can simply spend the . . . time to re-ingest. Bugger 🙂

    Yeah, the time and money spent on trying to recover the footage, and the sketchiness of how well it will be recovered might not be worth it. But that’s a LOT of hours.

    RAID 5…worth the money.

    many thanks Shane, I am sort of coming to that conclusion myself, bite the bullet and spend the time on uncompromised media and then make sure I have a back up. I will check out Raid5, cheers, Richard.

    Richard- Are the drives still spinning up? Have you tried Disk Warrior? Many of us here have used it successfully.

    Richard- Ok, you are at the end of the road. I presume your 4 tb G-Tech is Raid 0. Because you say the set-up is new you probably have one failing drive. If you can isolate the bad drive here is a link for some last resort remedies;

    Good luck!

    thanks Alto, whew, that is some read, a bit beyond my brain I am afraid. i guess I will back up the project, save to another drive, delete everything on that drive, give it a clean via techtool and redig, see you all in a month or so 🙂

    I found the QT Files, they all look good, correctly labelled but when I went to open them was told they were not Movie files and would not open. Any ideas, otherwise i will simply bite the bullet and start over, bugger 🙂

    Richard,

    Unfortunately, from your description it sounds as if the files have been corrupted or that only their header info still exists.

    I have seen the same thing many times when various apps are used to try to resurrect drives that have gone bad. The files somehow return and give false hope, but they are sadly just shells of the former video files and wind up being worthless.
