I use velvetmatter.com’s plugs as well as newbluefx.com’s and the extensions and plugs on vasst.com are excellent. Don’t write off third party plugs- a majority of them are useful and expedite workflows.

It sounds like to need to ensure that you have “reduce interlace flicker” checked. You may also want to downsize your photos to whatever your project settings are (unless you are doing a lot of zooming and then you may want it to be double the size of your project dimensions).

It sounds like you added your content as the menu (which has a 1 gig file size limit) as opposed to media that is accessed via a menu. If you do not want a menu, just go to- File- New and select a project without a menu.

What mpeg template are you utilizing? If you are using the DVD-A template (any of them) they do not include the audio so you do not have to reencode your audio (it should be saved as a seperate stream in AC-3 format). If you are not using the DVD architect templates you can choose to encode the audio with the video or uncheck the box to ensure it doesn’t.
Also, make sure your track mute property is not selected.

Under “Page Properties” check the “Loop” box; it should be right underneath the Menu Length. I don’t know what version you are using but that option should be there.

Make sure that you are not bypassing the fx (make sure the check is in the box on the plugin chain for that fx). Are you seeing any other fx applied? Also, check on your preview window that the you are not bypassing the fx there either. It will be one of the icons at the top with a moon looking pic on it.

Are you able to uninstall sp3? It sounds like one of your codecs got messed up (and from what you wrote, the only change you made was sp3).
That would be option number one for me if I were in your shoes. What is below may or may not prove any difference.
If you want, you can try this: https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=602126&Replies=143
There is no warranty or guarantee concerning this. It is something that the Sony engineers are looking to implement in version 8.0c. It may or may not help you and it involves replacing a dll file. Make sure you do a system restore before trying this.
If you would like to help test the pre-release HDV reader for Vegas Pro 8, please follow these exact steps:
1) Download the file “M2tsplug.zip” from this ftp site:
{you must go to the thread provided in the link above and look for the second post from the forum adminstrator. Then please follow the instructions below.}
2) unzip
3) copy the file
m2tsplug.dll
into (default path) C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 8.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\m2tsplug .
Choose yes when prompted to over-write.
4) Restart Vegas> Load up any HDV files or HDV projects you have been having trouble with.
5) Please post your results back to this thread. Don’t start another thread.
6) If you run into problems, please post details. Critical details are
a) full system specs
b) problem file genealogy
– What device recorded this file?
– Was the tape brand new, or was it used once or more?
– What application was used for capture?
– Has this file been opened or saved in ANY other application, such as Womble, or Premiere.
– What problem did you encounter (stability, red frames, black frames, other)The more detail the better.
…….
Please limit your comments in this thread to HDV file problems only. This beta HDV reader does not change the behavior of other source file types, it is for checking HDV .m2t files only.If you run into a problem with this new reader, please delete this file (m2tsplug.dll) and un-install/ re-install Vegas Pro 8.0b.
Do not contact SCS tech support about this pre-release HDV reader for Vegas Pro 8. This needs to be thought of as a component beta test between you, and SCS engineering.
Good luck, and we look forward to your results.

You will choose AC3 for your audio template and either use studio or pro and tweak however you want. Make sure that it is named exactly the same except for the file extension and save it in the same folder as the video stream and when you open it in DVDA and drag the video stream to the timeline the audio will come with it.

It sounds like a corrupt install or I am just not understanding what you wrote. It does come with FX for both audio and video and well as pan/crop and 3-D Track Motion along with others. It comes with ProType Titler as well as media generators for text.
You may want to attempt a reinstall.
