Do you have the actual events on the timeline selected for render? It sounds like you may have a blank portion of the timeline looped for render. Make sure your loop is inclusive of your footage that is intended for render and you have in the render settings, “render loop region” checked.

October 18, 2009 at 11:34 pm in reply to: Enhance for widescreen in Vegas/DVDA?

When you render from Vegas, you will want to use the “Main Concept mpeg-2” option with the “DVD Architect Widescreen Video Stream” template.

Then render your audio out to AC3 as a seperate stream. This will get you a widescreen dvd.

Now, even though DVDA flags your video as widescreen, people’s TV sets/dvd players are different and can misinterpret that flag or they may have settings that cause it to be shown differently.

Does the camera you are using have a CMOS sensore instead of a CCD? If so, this phenomenon is called rolling shutter. Technology is getting better at correcting this issue, but in some of the first HD cameras and CMOS sensor cameras (camcorders) this issue is pervasive.

Here is a link concerning the issue.

You will want DVDA (pro). And, you will want to render out your video to mpeg-2 for DVD Architect Video Stream only (this is a preset under Main Concept mpeg-2). And you will want to use AC3 audio for your audio. Render them seperately and save them with the same name in the same folder. Then open DVDA and set your project how you want and import your video file. The audio will automatically be picked up and there won’t be any need for reencoding your files as they are DVD compliant (if you followed my instructions above). Hope this helps.

Download this and use it to check the file format. However, I would recommend you use FRAPS and look for a post on creativecow.net for Johnny Roy with the key word FRAPS…

    Or, just click here.

AVI is just a wrapper. You can put anything in it pretty much. It could be Xvid, it could be lagarith, it could be cineform or anything else for that matter.

What format are you saving it in from your sims capture utility? Also, what is the capture utility you are using? It sounds like it is saving it in a format that Vegas does not like. If you could provide some more detail we could help you better.

  • I heard it was being worked on but there were several things in front of it that were not “freeware”. I’m sure they will get on it soon.

October 16, 2009 at 3:18 pm in reply to: Newbie!! How do I get my video to computer?

    Hi,

I don’t know your model of camera but it should have a firewire port on it. Hook a firewire cable up to that and then the other side to your computer’s firewire port and turn your camera on play. Open Vegas and go to File/Capture. Be sure to select the right option (there are two- one for HD (high definition) and one for SD (standard definition). Whichever one you filmed in should be the option you choose. Then you can name your clips (or events- just another name for clips) and tell the program where you want to start recording with the VCR like controls. Once done, the files (clips) will populate in your project media folder within Vegas and you can drag and drop them to your timeline.

    Hope that helps.

A word of caution, firewire ports can short out. You may want to make sure your computer and camera is off before you plug in the firewire cord.

October 5, 2009 at 8:51 pm in reply to: skin tone color correction challenge

I’m not sure what tools platinum has, but I would recommend bumping up the saturation some. That will boost the greens of the foliage and the skin tones.

However, you have overexposed some of the shots. The arms and the forehead are most troublesome as they are extremely bright. Look here to see if this will help you. It may not work completely for you as it is done in Vegas 9 pro and platinum may limit you here.
