You’d be able to mix the formats, but the cameras would have different motion characteristics. It would be better to just get a camera that shoots the same or frame rates. GoPro, DJI, Sony also make small action cameras.

I’d get a camera that can shoot in PAL frame rates (25 or 50Hz) to better match your existing cameras.

Sony has a few cameras that are based around more video than stills. I’d have a look at the Sony FX3 if you do need stills, or the more video centric Sony FX6. Not sure if you’d need an external audio recorder with either of those cameras. If you need more stills than videos there’s also the Alpha 1. We use the A7sIII for gimbal work. I wish we should have known the FX3 was coming as we may have waited for that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple goes to a hardware subscription model.

They are doing it with iPhones (it’s not really a subscription, but the iPhone Upgrade Program sort of functions like a subscription), and now with M1 Macs and controlling the entire chipset, why wouldn’t they? They could then add on a ProApps subscription for another certain amount of money per month (probably pretty cheaply).

I don’t know, I wouldn’t read too much in to this for now.

Look in to using snapshots instead of duplicates.

You can then setup a smart collection to keep the most current Project in there and have another smart collection that filters out the snapshots to keep things tidy. I have a smart collection called “Current Projects” and a smart collection called “zSnapshots”. There are differences in what happens when you snapshot a project vs duplicating it. Heres’s a video that goes over the differences:

There’s a few ways. First is this for backup purposes only or are you going to use the new hard drive? If using the new hard drive:

One is to simply drag and drop it all to the new hard drive (or use a utility like Hedge or Shotput or any other file copy utility). Then open the new library on the new drive and relink to the media on the new drive.

The other way is to use FCPX and you can copy the media using the file menu and media management capabilities in FCPX. The downside to this is that FCPX will rearrange the media and it won’t stay in the structure that is in the Finder.

If for backup, use a utility like Chronosync to sync everything from the one drive to the other and you can set it up to run syncs periodically to keep it all aligned.
