February 12, 2009 at 10:10 pm in reply to: Exporting tracking data to Flash….

did you read the comments after the post that you linked to? Someone else asked almost exactly what you are asking..

“I want to track 4 points to use as tracking and skew data in flash. Alternatively, can the script be modded so that the user can choose the property name rather than hard coding it to “Track Point 1_Attach Point” (based on the leaf node names)”

    And his answer…

Diving a bit deeper into the After Effects motion tracker will give you what you want. Each tracker source layer can have multiple tracks on it. Just push the “track motion” button again and AE will create multiple tracks on the source layer. But what I think you really want to use is the Tracker Type called “Perspective Corner Pin”. This will create a tracker with four points. Alternatively, you can use the RAW track type and add as many points as you wish (using the flyout menu on the upper right corner of the Tracker Controls panel.)
Later, when running the “Convert Keyframes to Markers” script, just make sure that all of the attach points that you want to be embedded are selected. Note that even though the marker dialog is limited to showing three cue point fields, all four should actually be embedded in the FLV on output. You can confirm this when you import the FLV into Flash Professional. Enjoy!

  • Or, leave all your 3d layers still and animate the camera instead?

Look up Aaron Rabinowitz’ podcast on Z-scale.

Basically, put all your layers in a 3d comp, and spread them out with z-scale. It’s an easy way to spread them out, although I’m not sure if this is what you want or not..

I bet you could get some decent movement with the puppet tool, single blades of grass and particular, or lots of comp nesting..

Video Copilot recently came out with a preset that will do exactly what you are after…

As I understand it, the 3D draft option is just that. A rough draft (lower quality) preview of your 3D space. By not rendering lights, it allows you to work faster once you have a complex 3D scene setup.

AE is inherently a 3D space. All you need to take advantage of it is a layer with the 3D switch on.

December 2, 2008 at 9:11 pm in reply to: What Image Resolution to Work with in AE ?

If you are using at least PS CS3:

    File > New

    Preset: Film and Video

    Size: NTSC DV

This will give you a 720×480 file with the proper aspect ratio, and it will also give you title safe and action safe guides.

This will work if you are only animating position. But, as Dave said, you will need larger images if you plan on scaling or zooming in past 100% of the original size.

You’ll just need to find a player that is coded to play H264’s as well as FLV’s.

This is the gold standard of free video players, and it supports H264 playback:

    https://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_FLV_Playe

The documentation says it should be an H264 MPEG, but I’ve also had success playing H264 MOV’s.

    Good luck!

[Roger BURTON] “I’m guessing that when you say ‘not quite so feature rich’ you are referring to the clever tricks that can be achieved in Flash where the viewer can interact with the imagery by use of the mouse ?”

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. Also, when the ecard is done, it could say “Play Again” or give some other options, or start playing another vifeo, etc..

I did want to clarify though.. Flash can play H264 videos now, but the player would need to be coded for that, and the user would need at least Flash 9 to view it.
