I did as you suggested and it made life really easy as I didnt have to worry about the audio and video going out of sync.
It worked a treat. All I had to do then was to resize the images using image and wire frame which was easy.
I encountered some stuttering during playback ( not sure why) but it worked fine when I exported it and burnt it to DVD.
Thanks for setting me on the right track and giving me the right termonology so I could look it up in the manual if I got stuck. Im self taught, so I dont always know the correct lingo.

I know nesting can cause problems with media management. I may back up files onto a different external hard drive in the future. I made a new project and copied the sequences into it before nesting them so im guessing if I delete that project before using media management to transfer files I wont have a problem??…. I hope so anyway

I kind of knew there had to be an easier way as I have done an audio mix down once before. This seems to be related. My sequence is quite complex and it would be really easy to throw things off by a few frames which would be very very annoying.

Thanks a million for getting back to me so quickly, your very kind.
And Im sorry about posting in the wrong forum, just realised that there are two final cut forums. Will bare that in mind in future

Anyway before I do this, Should I compress all the footage on both timelines down to one single layer as I have at least 25 layers of sound and 3 to 4 layers of images. Is there a simple way to do this. Both sequences are edited to exactly the same length. ( about 7 mins )
Im trying to make a dvd of a multi channel projection piece I did.

I have been looking through the forums for the answer as well but have had little luck so far, prob cos im using the wrong search words. so any recommendations on that point are welcome too.

Hi

I had a similar problem when capturing HD DV footage
It all broke into short segments even though I had the camera running contineously

This can happen when you dont format your external hard drives for macs.(not sure why..I think most external hard drives are automatically formatted for PCs which tend to break up information into small segments…)
or it seems to happen randomly. Sometimes I find using capture now can help. and once when I was really stuck I didnt digitise the footage as HD just normal DV pal.I had a project the next day so was pretty desparate as some footage is better than none at all. It worked and the resulting project actually looked ok. I dont have a blue ray burner anyway……
Final cut can be sometimes peculiar with HD.

Anyway I wish you the best of luck and someone else is bound to respond to your problem. There are a lot of very generous technical geniuses out there

Never knew about the keyboard layout.

I used to use keyboard shortcuts all the time but forgot them after a gap of two years without access to an edit suit.

Thanks a million for replying to my post. I really appreciate it

I think trashing the preferences is the only option as I have tried the rest. The cable is probably ok as the camera is communicating and even digitising for 2 secs. I will give the rest one last try tommorrow morning and then do it in the presence of a more computer literate friend.

will put a post up on how I get on. hopefully it will work.
