final cut pro compatability issues with HD camera
Not all cameras seem to be compatible with final cut.
I have a problem digitising footage into final cut from my Sony HD 1080i/mini DV camera. (pal format as Im based in Europe)
It used to work ok, albeit with some rendering issues.I had it set to the HD settings. Suddenly it stopped working
I have tried adjusting the audio visual settings, using several different types. The only one i could get it to communicate on was DV50 pal 48Hz anamorphic.But it stops digitising after 3/4 sec and says there is a problem with my source tape.I dont mind digitising at a lower res as i use imovie to burn my DVDs and it doesn’t have a blue ray burner.
I used to use a college three chip cannon camera with no probs before this and could even use my sony HD camera to digitise stuff I had recorded on that.
so I dont understand why things have suddenly gone wrong….
can anyone out there help me.im really worried I will not be able to use footage I have shot previously or will have to re invest in a new camera which wont be fun.

yeah thats true.
try trashing your preferences (google it if you don’t know what that means)
try the “HDV 1080i FireWire Basic” easy setup.
the Sony V1U will only work with that on my version of fcp for example.
make sure the camera firewire port is set manually to HDV mode and not AUTO or DV.
try another cable if it still doesn’t work.
if it worked once it will work again.

I think trashing the preferences is the only option as I have tried the rest. The cable is probably ok as the camera is communicating and even digitising for 2 secs. I will give the rest one last try tommorrow morning and then do it in the presence of a more computer literate friend.
will put a post up on how I get on. hopefully it will work.

just recently, I had a bad 6-pin to 4-pin firewire cable adapter cause a similar problem
