Playing two clips together at same time

There is a basics forum for this kind of question.

YEs, switch the canvas to image+wireframe. Stack the two clips on top of each other in the timeline. Grab the corner of one image to resize it. Do the same for the other image. Grab the image drag it around the screen to reposition it.

Thanks a million for getting back to me so quickly, your very kind.
And Im sorry about posting in the wrong forum, just realised that there are two final cut forums. Will bare that in mind in future

Anyway before I do this, Should I compress all the footage on both timelines down to one single layer as I have at least 25 layers of sound and 3 to 4 layers of images. Is there a simple way to do this. Both sequences are edited to exactly the same length. ( about 7 mins )
Im trying to make a dvd of a multi channel projection piece I did.

I have been looking through the forums for the answer as well but have had little luck so far, prob cos im using the wrong search words. so any recommendations on that point are welcome too.

Just create a 3rd sequence, and drop the other two sequences onto the timeline. They will look like any other clip that you can click, drag, trim, etc, with two exceptions….it’s a different color and if you double click it, the sequence timeline opens rather than loading into the viewer. This is called nesting, and is used to simplify a timeline that has some intricate parts, especially those with lots of layers that can accidently be bumped a few frames/seconds and throw things off.

To apply filters, use motion controls, etc., right click the nested sequence on the timeline, and select “open in viewer”. Or hit the return button on the keyboard. Now you can manipulate the scale of the entire sequence or apply color correction without having to adjust each clip individual.

I kind of knew there had to be an easier way as I have done an audio mix down once before. This seems to be related. My sequence is quite complex and it would be really easy to throw things off by a few frames which would be very very annoying.

I did as you suggested and it made life really easy as I didnt have to worry about the audio and video going out of sync.
It worked a treat. All I had to do then was to resize the images using image and wire frame which was easy.
I encountered some stuttering during playback ( not sure why) but it worked fine when I exported it and burnt it to DVD.
Thanks for setting me on the right track and giving me the right termonology so I could look it up in the manual if I got stuck. Im self taught, so I dont always know the correct lingo.

I know nesting can cause problems with media management. I may back up files onto a different external hard drive in the future. I made a new project and copied the sequences into it before nesting them so im guessing if I delete that project before using media management to transfer files I wont have a problem??…. I hope so anyway
