Phil,

My advise would be to ditch the onboard video and pick up a decent GTX card. A 460 (~$165) or a 560 (~$190) Most come with 2-DVI ports and 1 HDMI. I’ve looked at the specs for the Inspiron 530, the only problem is you might have to buy a power supply for it. Dell is famous for just enough power supply for what’s in the box. If you buy a GTX card you will need two 6pin power connectors. If you connect it to the power supply that’s in there now it might not power up. The cards will cover two slots (double thick).

I’m not in front of Vegas right now, but, if you select the tracks you want to multi-cam edit, then go to the tools menu you should see (near the bottom) prepare multi-cam tack, or something like that. Then, select enable multi-cam editing. (Not sure on the wording) Look in the help system for details.

An AVI is a ‘container’ for a wide variety of video formats. You need to analyze with a utility like gspot.exe (available on the web) and locate the codec that was used to make the file. Beware, do not install codec packs, the will replace paid-for Sony supplied codecs with free or hacked codecs, and your videos will be less quality. If you have codec questions ask here.

Even faster you could place your cursor where you want the time inserted, split events if you need, then on the menu select Insert|Time, enter exactly how much time according to your ruler properties and hit OK. It will ripple for you.

I’ll give them a whirl. I’ve used DVDA pretty thorough and have used psd’s as templates.

Have you tried stretching? Take off the velocity envelope and drag one edge of the event while holding down the mouse button.

You’re going to get a lot of that from the TV simulator plugin that comes with Vegas. It will take you a while and a bunch of keyframes. Spend some time with it and try out the presets.

I use Tom’s hardware for benchmarks and buy almost exclusively from Newegg.com. I was just wondering what arrangement of hard drives you have, video card, memory specs, how many watts power supply you chose. Stuff like that. Did you build your computer because it was for video editing? Sony Vegas in particular? I am editing on a system built for Sony Vegas as the primary application. It is the third system I built for myself in 6 years. I’ve built probably 40-50 in the last 10 years.

If you find a piece of hardware (MB, Video card, etc.) that has a marked effect on rendering, let me know. I’m always looking for good tips and advice.
