Editing Question – How do I make space to insert a clip while editing in the .veg file with so many parts and pieces already laid out?
I have laid out the clips of videos along with all the various transition etc. Now I would like to add a few clips while I am editing. My question is – Is there an easy way to insert a clip into my movies that have already been laid out (with various layers etc)?
Right now, I painstakingly have to select each clip and then move the entire chunk of clips to the right to make space – and I am afraid I may not select a certain clip by mistake and that would be horrible.
Anyone can help? Thanks in advance.

You don’t say which version of Vegas you are using, so I’ll tell you how I do it.
Turn on “Ripple” and in the drop-down menu select “all events, etc”. Now grab the first event that you want to move, and move it to the right. Everything related should move with it. (This is optional, but I like to see that the events already on the timeline move as expected). Now, CTRL-Z to move the events back to where they were. Now, with ripple on, just drag the new clip to the timeline where you want it to be inserted and everything after it will shift right to accommodate the new event. If you want to insert the new event in the middle of an existing event, you have to first split the existing event at the desired location.Note. ALL media on the timeline are events. You won’t find “clip” in the help files or manual in reference to media on the timeline.

Even faster you could place your cursor where you want the time inserted, split events if you need, then on the menu select Insert|Time, enter exactly how much time according to your ruler properties and hit OK. It will ripple for you.

There’s at least two ways to do anything in Vegas, often more. Pick the one that works for you.
