    What do you mean by flattened? A rendered video only has one layer. If you want layers from AE, you have to render them with alpha channel transparency.

    Try duplicating you project and disable all effects if it renderes try removing effects one at a time until you find the culprit.

    I use it for the multi-cam function the most. It is absolutely indispensable. You can also apply effects to groups of events or to tracks, you can also remove effects. There are way too many functions to list here. Download the trial version and give it a spin.

    What quality is your preview window set at. Vegas is a non-destructive editor. It does not change the source material at all.
