I am running Windows 7 and 64 bit Sony Vegas version 11. (683) Tons of space and memory. Never had this issue before but today while trying to render a 4 minute music video after about 50% of rendering time, my cumputer completely crashes. This is not a ram issue, or a heat issue. I tested rendering another previously edited video and it rendered absolutely fine, so it must be an issue with this particular video. I can only assume it is some of the plugins I am using which are few. I am using a sepia tone plugin, film grain, film effects and black and white. That’s it. What on earth can be causing this? I am dumbfounded.

I have a .mov that is in the timeline, amongst other HD files (.mts). I took the .mov file out and tried rendering, still crashed. This is odd because the entire computer is crashing, not just Vegas, so you would think it might be ram or heat, but I tested rendering another video and it was fine. I tried resinstalling Vegas, still crashed on rendering. Any thoughts?

Try duplicating you project and disable all effects if it renderes try removing effects one at a time until you find the culprit.

Thanks Jeff – I actually figured it out. After doing exactly as you mentioned and it still crashing, I went into the folder where all the files are and removed the temp files (ie the .bak and .sfk files). Then I renamed the vegas file. Then I opened the session and it created new temp files which I guess it must call from during the rendering session. Anyway, it rendered fine. I guess there was some glitch in one of the temp files that the program kept calling during render. Or I could be way off. 🙂 Anyway, it worked.

I hunted all over the web and found similar problems but none of them related quite to this. So I hope this helps someone in the future.
