Since you’re the second person who commented on the AVCHD footage, I decided to purchase the UpShift program from NewBlue.
But then I discovered that Sony’s Picture Mover program that came with my AVCHD cam converts .mt2s files to Mpeg2 or .mpg
My question is: which is better? Files converted to .mts or .mpg (Windows movie media)?

You may read my recent posts regarding the troubles I have had with DVD Architect Pro. For some reason, it doesn’t want to work with this HP computer I bought. I actually took the time to exchange it for a brand new one just to see if I had a lemon. Architect continued to lock up the system when searching for the drives.
I am now attempting to use Cyberlink but it doesn’t recognize .m2v files.
Sony Creative just had me render a Sony AVC file, changing the render format to .mp4 but Cyberlink came back with an error message about conflicting tv formats “downgrading on import” – plus the audio file did not come through.
I did discover a known issue with 8.1 and that the MainConcept will not produce a Blu-Ray at 1920×1080; otherwise, I would have used that.
Do I have the guts to download 8.0 on a 64bit Vista system? I’m not sure.
One human should not have to go through this to get an HD Blu-Ray disc. : )

Ahhh…thanks John. That may help my timeline playback.
I finally rendered an acceptable piece in MainConcept AVC format in 640×360
However, YouTube would not accept it (.mp4) and neither would Blogger.com
I just want a quality version of it on the web to be previewed by a handful of people.

My Sony Handycam saves the AVCHD files as .m2ts
Is this the same thing that the AVCHD UpShift does?

Actually, mini-dv and AVCHD footage are mixed together and both lag, causing out of sync audio/video.
Would this affect the rendering because the MainConcept AVC video I rendered not only lagged on my editing computer but on another computer that I e-mail the rendered Quicktime file to.
Is there a frames setting in MainConceptAVC that I am not setting correctly.
Would someone share their MainConcept AVC export settings with 1920×1080 footage to get optimal results for the web?

My computer is a Quad core. I just am surprised that Vegas lags with a quad core, 8GB Ram computer. I really have to find a solution. I cannot edit in this environment.
But I am questioning the purchase of this HP computer that was supposed to be “high-end” with a nice 25.5″ monitor but with a low end video card and only integrated sound.
If you notice my earlier thread post, Vegas and Architect still do not recognize the drives. This is another reason to buy something else.
If I were to buy a custom built computer, can someone give me specs that would run Vegas rock solidly.

I am also experiencing lagging from playback on the timeline.
Is this typical? Is it the AVCHD footage?
I have 8gbRAM with 1 TB hard drive but I just found out the graphics card is a cheap GeForce 9300GE. I also am running this on a Vista 64bit machine
Any one have any thoughts? I am at a crossroad here. I still can get a refund on this computer and have one customed built with XP 32bit and a better graphics card.
Anyone else have lagging playback problems?

I successfully rendered a MainConcept AVC and it played with Quicktime! I don’t think I need to mess with Quicktime Pro now.
Question: The audio sync is off a few frames. Is there something that I can adjust in the render settings?

That is some very interesting information.
In addition, every render I have tried of my 1920×1080 AVCHD footage has given me black bars on the ends when played back in Quicktime Pro. The same was true when I tried the Animation render you suggested. I will continue to experiment but would like some help.

P.S. I contacted Apple and they do not provide tech support for their $30 Quicktime Pro software. Incredible!
