    Hey Guys

My video stutters during preview playback.

    I am using Vegas 8.1
I have 8 Gigs of RAM. Is this an allocation of RAM problem?
    I am using Vista 64bit

My footage is 1920×1080 using Sony AVCHD.

Does it have to do with preview settings? I still have not found where to set the Display and Preview resolution settings

AVCHD is extremely hard on any computer.
RAM means very little in this situation.
What kind of CPU do you have?

Most users run their Preview window at Preview/Auto and get decent playback results.

Since you’re the second person who commented on the AVCHD footage, I decided to purchase the UpShift program from NewBlue.

But then I discovered that Sony’s Picture Mover program that came with my AVCHD cam converts .mt2s files to Mpeg2 or .mpg

My question is: which is better? Files converted to .mts or .mpg (Windows movie media)?

Jeff, I don’t use camcorders that shoot in AVCHD so I haven’t used the Picture Mover program.
I’m not sure why it would convert the footage though as it’s my understanding that it’s purpose is to “move” the footage from the camcorder’s hard drive to your computer – or am I mistaken?

It does both. There are a couple of export options actually.

Comparing both files, the .mts and the .mpg, looks like the UpShift program produced a higher quality mpeg2. $50 was well worth it. The stuttering is practically gone!!
