The new library structure is pretty much the oppositie of past functionality. The libraries can exist anywhere on the hard drive and only the libraries you open show up. You can also launch FCPX with a particular library open and ready to go by double clicking on the library.
Libraries can also be closed without having to shut down FCPX.

In that case you’re probably better working with libraries inside the sparse bundles as the new libraries will be seen as packages rather than hard drives so your system wouldn’t work.

I would think that using a library per student would be the better option although there’s no reason that the sparse bundles won’t work once they’re updated. You’d just have a library in each sparse bundle.
The only advantage to sparse bundles would be if you had them password protected.

The Matrox box only has a thunderbolt input. It’s designed to be at the end of the chain like the Mini Monitor. I suspect your only option to achieve what you want will be an Apple display which will give you a thunderbolt pass-through.

In the angle editor, you should see a downward pointing triangle next to the angle name. Select that, then choose add new angle (amongst other nifty options that menus gives you).

You can manually add an angle in the Angle editor, sync it up (manually or automatically) and then set that as your new default angle. I think you’ll still need to go back to your project and set the audio angle to the new one though.
Alternatively, you could just add it as a track connected to your project and turn off the sound in the multi-track clip.

There are a few things that I think could be better from a UI standpoint – but I thought I was pretty good at cleaning up old projects and x-wiper managed to find me another 800gb I’d missed. I thought that was worth the price tag.

If you’ve cut it as a multicam you can grade in the angle editor and the grade will appear downstream in your edit.
Otherwise it’s not much more effort to get one b-roll cut looking right then copy/paste it to the others. Select the rest of the b-roll by doing a search, then paste.

Which just means that you need to modify your backup strategy to suit the software, not ask the developer to change their application to suit your strategy.
Backing up to a folder in the root of your drive is the way most folks handle the situation so there’s no reason to doubt it will work for you. If some of the rumoured changes come in FCPX come to pass, you’ll only have to deal with the issue for another week or two in any event.
