If you are sure you unchecked the copy option then no, it’s not normal behaviour. Can’t think of a reason why it would do that though…

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with CCC, it’s a great and useful tool, I just couldn’t understand why you’d call on Apple to fix an issue with something that doesn’t advertise itself as being a FCPX backup solution.

Now I’ve had my morning coffee, I’ll add what I’m sure others will also say – you can’t have two identical copies of events and projects online at the same time. So no matter what software you choose for your backup, the copy destination needs to be in a folder, not in the root of the drive.

I’m not entirely sure why you think it’s up to Apple to fix Carbon Copy Cloner?

I can to you that I’ve been backing up my 4tb RAID to another 4tb drive with Chronosync for years and it has no issues at all with FCPX. Might be time to switch to an app that works 🙂

Happens to me on a regular basis. I usually just back out of the project and reopen it. And ot’ll go away for a while A bug, I guess. Bring on FCPX 10.1. I’m sure that’ll have a 10 new bugs of its own but hopefully not that one 🙂

I’d guess a corrupt render file? Try deleting your render files and see if goes away. I’ve had more than one weird glitch cured by doing that.

Yes, should have added that log and green screen can be a nightmare but if you’re keying off the FS700 internal codec then you’re not shooting to grade later in any event. Rec709 is definitely the go-to colour space on Sony’s FS series for keying.

The keyer you use depends on the material. The FCPX keyer is fantastic but sometimes it’s the Boris Keyer that saves the day, or Keylight, or one of the half dozen others I own. Definitely not a one size fits all in my experience.

As far as the FS700 goes, I only own an FS100 but I can pull great keys off that using the internal codec so I can’t imagine an FS700 giving you any trouble along as it’s shot right to start with.

Adobe audition also has a declipper but not nearly as effective as Izotope’s. The Izotope declipper saved audio for me when I thought the only option would be a re-shoot so I’d definitely give that a try.

FCPX has two main folders – Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events. Inside those are, sensibly enough, folders for each event and/or project. Inside those are some regulars like Original Media and render files, and others are only created if/when you use a particular feature. E.g. you won’t see an Optimised Media or a proxy media folder if you never do either of those processes.

As to why you have one in your ~/Movies folder even after moving it. FCPX has to have those folders to launch. if it can’t find them anywhere else, it creates them in your Movies folder. Sooner or later, whether because you didn’t have the external drive connected or FCPX just glitches and decide to make them anyway, they will return.

The other folder you’ll find is a Motion Projects folder. This and it’s sub-folders is where FCPX keeps Motion based effects, transitions, etc.

How do you learn the what and where of folders? Use FCPX a lot, ask questions, do some trial and error. Create a project or an event and watch what happens in the finder.

At the end of the day though, FCPX is a database driven program and messing with anything it creates on a Finder level is never a good idea. It’s occasionally nice to know about the folders it uses but not essential, which is why most people can’t tell you what specific folders are for.

Possibly. Also changes in FCPX, especially around version 10.0.6 made older projects less compatible.

Glad to hear it’s working for you…

Generally when making that big a leap forward, I’d do a backup and clean install of the whole computer because there’s potentially so much incompatible “junk” lurking under the hood that it’s almost impossible to tell what’s causing issues.
