Are you saying the entire computer has slowed down or just FCPX? Which version of OS X are you running?

Over all, the initial release ran on pretty much anything but FCPX has been leaning more heavily on the GPU from about 10.0.6 onward so you might be seeing signs that your graphics card isn’t keeping up.

Getting your FCPX project into Motion as-is, isn’t really on the cards. You can export your edit as a movie and bring it in but that’s about the size of it.

With FCPX and motion you sort of need to think in reverse. You create your motion graphics as a generator or effect or title, or whatever makes the most sense for the way you need to use it, then publish it back to FCPX where you can apply it to your project.

I’d say the answer is no. What got rendered before the crash will be in your destination folder but the queue itself is probably long gone.

I’d think in situations like that, with a lot of items queued to render, you’d be better of sending them to Compressor which has a way more robust batch rendering system.

Nope. I’m seeing speed increases all ’round on all my computers (various iMacs, Mac Mini, a couple of 13″ MacBooks) But I made sure all the software I need to run was Mavericks tested and compatible before I upgraded.

I did a clean install on all my editing workstations and, while I can’t say if it’s Mavericks specifically or just because of the fresh install, FCPX seems to be operating better than before.

The MP4 thing is a bit unfortunate but I understand there’s a lot of new A/V code under the hood, so it’s not unexpected that there are a few hiccups. If you are jumping in on the dot zero version of anything you have to expect some issues.

Without buying more software, I’d suggest exporting from FCPX using the option to export audio roles as individual files. You lose the ability to edit the audio on a per clip basis but you can cut things up in audition if you need to.

Not as nice or flexible as using something third party to convert the fcpxml but it works. I tend to do a role per scene.

As Bill says in his reply though, you can do a lot in FCPX before you go to something like Audition for finishing.

Just to comment on that: For the record I love to share and frequently do. I didn’t mention it because nobody asked, I thought it was common knowledge, and I was fairly sure I got the info from the COW forums in the first place. I think John Heagy’s original post got me started and then it was just a matter of Googling how to do it.

Just about to update all my computers to Mavericks so lets see if I can get NFS back up and running again.

Optimised Media is (or should be) created in the same directory as your Event, so if your Event is on the external HDD that’s where the Optimised or Proxy media will be created.

You might try trashing your preferences? It’s not normal behaviour for FCPX so definitely an issue of some sort with your particular install.

And I’ll add that I’ve spotted a few posts in other forums about Mavericks not natively handling MP4s from cameras like the GoPro properly any more. I’d guess there’s still a bug or two in their new AV Foundation stuff 🙂

All my computers have been upgraded so maybe the upgrades are keeping the previous behaviour and new installs aren’t, or perhaps Mavericks out of the box doesn’t play as many codecs as before. I’m planning a fresh install of Mavericks later in the week so I’ll make sure to test it out.
