    Hello,

Has anyone come up with a nice solution to get the FCPX projects into Motion 5?

I have a full edited sequence that I want to wrap in a Motion Graphic. Is there anyway to import the FCPX project as a Motion project much like “creating a motion project” from Adobe Photoshop project and keeping all the layers?

As always any help is greatly appreciated. . .

    Thank you.

Getting your FCPX project into Motion as-is, isn’t really on the cards. You can export your edit as a movie and bring it in but that’s about the size of it.

With FCPX and motion you sort of need to think in reverse. You create your motion graphics as a generator or effect or title, or whatever makes the most sense for the way you need to use it, then publish it back to FCPX where you can apply it to your project.

    Thanks Jeff,

Its not possible for me to work backwards like that. My FCPX edit was really building the content and the story and identifying the clips that are going to br comped into a 4 minute layered composite effect. So the only way to build that effect is with a composite program – FCPX would falter once I built 32 motion graphic layers – and try to group them all in different groups.

The ironic thing is that Motion handles importing Adobe projects better than its own Apple projects – go figure.

    Thanks again for the info.

If you have legacy, you could export via Xto7, then send that to Motion 4, then open that in Motion 5? Haven’t tried it myself, but obviously it’d be a one way imperfect street.

Having recently used AE project files directly in Premiere and watched them play back in real time right on the Premiere CC timeline, well, let’s hope this is the direction X goes in december. With what CC is bringing to the table any day now with it’s October .1 update, the next FCP X will need to be a game changer.

If round-tripping to Speedgrade is all it appears to be, it’s pretty amazing.

Maybe you could use roles to export many quicktime clips each
becoming your layers in motion ???

    Hi Bret,

    Thanks for this info.

Believe it or not, I am going to try it. . . 🙁

I may be an old fashion type of editor in trying to save client time and money by locking all my Content, Aroll, and Broll before moving to GFX. It seems that FCPX just is not ready for this yet.

Too bad because I was just starting to like it. . .

    Thanks again.

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for you input on this.

I think that in order to achieve what I am attempting, the only way is to have Motion Build the entire 4 minute effect with all the layers, Fonts, Live Video, Chroma Keys, Keyframe master camera animation and Color Correction all wrapped up into One 4 minute seamless master camera move on the master template canvas, I would need to build this in Motion not FCPX?

I just want to “create Motion Project” from FCPX sequence. Seems quite simple when you think about it – being that Apple already can do this quite seamlessly with Adobe Programs. . .

If I sound frustrated, I assure you that it is not with you and I really do appreciate all the info that everyone has given. I hope that there are some Apple people that are data mining all content on the internet – if so I will help the data mine search engine, so they can read this post.. .

    Hi Zachary,

I have never used Roles and I will see if this could work. D

o you know if I can export with handles and original TimeCode?

It may be an option and I will check it out.

    Thanks for the tip.
