Probably, no error on your part at all. It could have been a faulty disc, or a on-of-those-things glitch in the process. Personally, I always create a DVD / BD image and use something like Toast to burn it as I get better feedback about the progress.

“64 on 32″ is what did it for me. You need to have a compatible graphics card. I have a Radeon 5770 in mine.
I have other, newer Macs so I’m.not sure why I’m so obsessed with keeping the old Mac Pro going but it now has a new lease of life. Of course it’s hard to recommend running a hacked OS on your primary workstation as every software update may be it’s last – but so far it seems fine.
I plan to do some benchmarking of all my Macs over my Christmas break (to see if I can justify ordering the new Mac Pro) but performance-wise, it feels somewhere between my 2010 13 ” Mac Book and my iMac from the same year.

I’d also recommend buying a more recent Mac Pro to run FCPX but for what it’s worth, I’m running FCPX 10.1 and Mavericks on my 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 and while it’s slower than my 2012 27″ iMac it’s still quite useable.

Of course you no longer need to keep the files within the library so if you opt to keep your media in the finder you’re free to bend and break them any way you want.

It could be the project/event rather than anything specific to Event Manager X. From what I’ve read and personal experience, the update process can freeze on large projects and/or ones that use a lot of compound clips.
I have four current projects that cause FCPX to freeze if I try to convert them. I’m thinking I might have to try transferring those via XML for now.

You just need to drag it into the trash. I’d actually suggest you actually drag it somewhere else for safe keeping if you haven’t made a backup already. I had a project update go wrong and needed to revert to 10.0.9 to get things back on track.

Try deleting your current copy of FCPX. Sometimes the App Store gets a little confused…

He was saying that he wished media could just reside outside the library which it can in a completely supported way in the new version.

Media no longer has to reside inside a library. You can organise media into and out of a library to any folder on the hard drive. The import media panel also gives you the option of copying the media to an external folder rather than into the chosen library.
