FCPX should only be putting it in one folder and if ti’s breaking the clip unto smaller parts, you have timecode breaks in your tape copy or there’s something wrong with your FCPX install.
Any reason you’re not just capturing it one big file with something like Quicktime and importing to X after the fact?

Do a Google search for SFOTT (Sixty Four On Thirty Two). It’s a small app that patches a Mavericks install image so it can boot on a Mac Pro 1,1 and other non-supported systems. You need a supported graphics card though.
Being a hack, the day may come when an OSX update breaks it but so far, so good. It’s meant I’ll get another year or maybe more useful life out of it.

Yes, I’ve read a lot of stories about the persistence coming and then going away again. I’ll keep my fingers crossed happens for me as well.
Personally, I find it almost too irritating to keep using the computer. I’m back to doing a lot of editing on my Mavericks hacked 2006 Mac Pro, which does a surprisingly good job of running FCPX.
Apparently Apple were replacing screens with persistence issues for a short while but when there was a flood of returns, they solved the problem by adding a tech note saying it was normal and giving some hints on how to get the image off the screen.
I’ll certainly be cautious about buying any Apple monitors when I finally get my Mac Pro..

I have a late 2012 iMac i5 and it runs FCPX well.
My only negative is that screen burn-in/persistent image issues seem to be common. Mine ran perfectly for 13 months and then developed image persistence about 10 days ago. Even ten minutes of using an app will leave a ghost mage on the screen when I switch to something else.
Apple say it’s normal for IPS screens to do this. I say it’s only normal if it does it out of the box. 13 months of no issue then suddenly a persistent image problem is a fault, not the normal state of affairs. My debate with Apple continues.
I believe that the issue has either been fixed or greatly reduced in the 2013 update.

The only thing that crossed my mind was that if you’re shooting at 50p, and watching the end result at 50p, why not edit at 50p? You can always drop that 50p edit into a 25p timeline if you need to output it that way at any point. I can’t really see why you’d want to edit, and therefore evaluate your project, in a format other than the final output’s 50p.
The difference would be subtle but there nonetheless.

When you create a smart folder / spotlight search you can hold down the ,alt. key as you click on the little round plus (+) button to add a new criteria – which then adds a new section that lets you specify things to exclude. Not explained well but try it and you’ll get the idea.

Xto7 is the state of the art way to exchange projects between X & 7. Keep in mind you;re taking a step backwards in moving to FCP7 so it’s never going to be perfect.

You’ve contacted Red Giant support? Last I saw on their blog, both Magic Bullet Looks and Pluraleyes had issues with 10.1 and they recommended you don’t upgrade until they get an update out.

I agree. I participate in the FCPX Techniques forum from time to time but rarely visit here as I have zero interest in debating the merits of the software I’ve used (and love using) day in, day out for the last two years. The need for debate is long gone.
You won’t find me on the Premiere Pro or Avid forum constantly telling users why their NLEs suck and I often wonder what drives people to come here and argue the point about software they neither like or nor use. Surely that effort would be much better spent conversing with users of whatever NLE they do work with?
I do appreciate that the FCPX Techniques forum is there for those who want constructive conversation and this forum is valuable in keeping a lot of noise out of that forum but surely this forum could be ‘General Discussion’ rather ‘Or Not: The Debate’?

I’ve always used Chronosync for my daily backups and I simply tell it to treat packages as folders so only the library changes are copied. I’m sure other sync apps would offer the same option.
