I’d be inclined to run some tests on the RAID. I had something very similar happen for a couple of weeks, then one of the drives in the array failed.

The Black Magic driver is probably the cause. I’ve not had an issue with it crashing but there are plenty of others who have. So far there’s been no sign of a fix from either Black Magic or Apple.

Yes, EditReady does support AVC-Intra. And yes, the footage produced is completely independent of the app.. All it does is convert/rewrap your footage. You just get more control from an external app than you do in FCPX.

I’m always impressed when I use the Hawaiki Keyer but that result is pretty neat.
Hopefully it’s a long time before whoever thought that shot was a good idea is employed again.

Last time I had to do subtitles I used the free app Jubler and the subtitle import tools from Spherico. I won’t say they were the easiest or simplest but the price was right and in the end were as easy to use as anything else I trialled at the time.

Do you use Motion’s built-in tracker? Occasionally for simple things
Do you use a FCPX motion tracking plug-in, and if so, which ones? SliceX & TrackX
Do you use a separate application outside of FCPX and/or Motion? Mocha
What kind of footage do you track? HD & 4K footage
What kind of effects are you making with that tracking data? Relighting, beauty work, object removal, screen replacement. stabilisation

Looking at the waveform in the screenshot, if you’re out to be technically correct, I’d raise the blacks a little more – you’re crushing them just a little. In the real world, not everything that our eyes read as black is actually pure black and it looks like that image just may not have a lot of absolute black in it.
As I said earlier, you may decide to crush some of the blacks to amp up the contrast but that’s where the creative part of grading comes into play.

I think it would be fair to say that FCPX is at its best with ProRes so the best workflow is always going to be to get your source files to ProRes asap. If I choose not to do that for whatever reason, I generally rewrap the AVCHD files using Editready before I bring them into FCPX.
Can’t say that Editready does anything different to FCPX in the rewrapping process but I personally feel like the footage plays better out of It.

You might also just double check you haven’t accidentally got the viewer set to best performance.

Your effects and third party plugins need to be in the Motion Templates folder on the editing computer’s system drive. Some effects can be backed up by just copying the Motion Templates folder to an external drive. Some will need a copy of the installer file and license code. Then if you were moving the project to a new computer, you would reinstall the plugins and/or copy the contents of the Motion templates folder back to the new machine.
it’s not something I necessarily back up per-project but I do make sure I have an up to date copy of every plugin I own or have created (especially created) myself, just in case I need to install them again, and I also keep a folder for any external font I’ve ever installed for a project because it’s very easy to lose those over time.
