Am I right in thinking that duplicating a project vs snapshotting it should have worked the way he expected though?

It s not supported or guaranteed to always work – or really useful in your case – but you can let X create proxies then substitute your own as long as names and duration match.
I haven’t tested it but I have a vague notion that you don’t have to wait for X to generate all the proxies, just a few so everything’s set up and FCPX is looking for them.

Personally, I just edit in Final Cut. I leave which version to their imagination…

As far as I know, Google Drive chooses the clip thumbnail it displays at random and there’s no way to change it.

As far as workflow goes, I usually just bring the HDV files into FCPX, highlight them, go to the info pane and tell X to deinterlace them.
The burn DVD dialog inherits it’s text and title for the projectso you don’t need to use the preview window to change the text, and for the graphic, I created a DVD then took a screenshot of the menu to work from, then made a Photoshop template that lets me put whatever graphic I choose in the right spot.

My thought would be to import the clips into an external unmanaged library and let Transciva access them from there, or use something like EditReady to do the conversion as that shouldn’t have any problem letting you copy the path to the files inside the camera archive.
By the way, and everyone but may already have known this, the easiest way to do this in any application is to open the path in the Finder, then use the destination apps open dialog and drag the folder from the finder window into the app’s dialog window. unless the app is using some weird code, the app dialog will receive the path to the folder you just dragged in.
I’ve not used catalyst in years but dragging and dropping the path into whatever dialog you get when you go file->open could work around it not seeing the archive. Otherwise, let FCPX or something like EditReady do it instead.

In all seriousness, I think the answer to any question about weird behaviour in anything but the current version of FCPX has to be update. There are always bugs but there were some spectacular ones in versions earlier than 10.2.

It’s been a long, long time since I used Event Manager X but apart from keeping track of what was where in its database, I don’t remember it doing anything that you couldn’t do manually in the Finder.
Just move the projects and events from the Hidden folder into the normal location (sorry, can’t remember what that is – those dark days of FCPX project management are best forgotten)
