If one channel worked, you’d expect them both to… My only thought would be to open the file in your audio editor of choice and export the tracks individually, then import to FCPX.

Different frame rates for some reason?

A cheap-ish XLR to USB adapter will certainly work. I don’t own one but I’ve heard good things about the Shure, Swamp Industries, and Blue Icicle ones. Certainly they won’t be any worse than the old analog audio input that the Macs used to have – ugh.

I personally use an AVID Fastrack Duo for audio in and out, and from personal experience I’d also the recommend the Presonus and Focusrite equivalents. Even the Behringer one is good if you’re on a budget.

I think what he’s after is to have the output frame size change according to the crop like it would in if you cropped an image in Photoshop – so of you started with 1920×1080 and cropped to 220×513, that’s what the output movie size would be.

If I’m reading it right, I don’t think there’s any NLE that’s going to do what you want. I have no idea if it will work but you might try Photoshop to do the cropping. What you’re asking for is how it works with images and people tend to forget it handles video as well.

I spent hours on uninstalling, reinstalling, clean installing, etc. and because things like Resolve were working fine, I was convinced it had to be a software issue but I evenually gave up and took it to Apple to test the hardware.

  • I have a friend who uses one and my personal experience is limited to an afternoon of helping him with an edit but, for me at least, it only took a few minutes to get used to the curve. Another friend tried it and hated it. He couldn’t even say exactly why – just something about the curved screen bothered him.

I had something very similar happen a couple of years ago. It only happened with FCPX and turned out to be a faulty graphics card.

Reading it again, is he just wanting to have FCPX on one screen and set his preview to the second monitor via Preferences and the AV Output option?

Wouldn’t the simplest solution be to contact whoever you got the deck from and ask the, for the editable version?
