I would look at the images in question and try to figure out what is different about those images. I once had a similar problem and found some of my images were layered tiffs and that caused the problem.

I wish I could help. I’ve tried everything I can think of to replicate the problem but have not been able to figure out why that would happen.

I’m on a Mac but using CS. Under Effects/stylize you should see Drop shadow. The set the blur near the bottom on the box.

As far as I know, In Photoshop there is no way to do what you are asking.

are we talking Illustrator? The only way I know of is to put them on their own layer and turn that layer on or off. Seems very simple. You could also group guides and then hide them in chunks.

I don’t believe you can, but once a color is used, you can just sample it with the eye dropper to get it back.

It’s there in my Illustrator. Make sure you are on Effects pulldown menu, not the Filter Pulldown menu (which also has a stylize).

I believe asking how those shapes were created is like asking an artist how he created his art. I would assume a very talented person created those in Illustrator using his or her own creativity.

As far as I know, there is no easy way to do this if you can’t get can’t get good contrast. I did take you image and converted it to CYMK just to make a mask, and I did have a little more luck using the Magenta channel. You might want to try that (Make a copy, not the original) and them copy it back into the RGB version to use as a mask. I did not have enough time to really do a lot.
Personally, if I can help it, I just get rid of the soft whispy hairs and only use the main hair. I know sometimes it’s not possible. I just clone out the pain in the butt stuff.
