If you tried the flicker filter in FCP and it didn’t help, then you can do this in motion.

The Text generator does not go to motion – so you’ll have to copy/paste the text.
Then you can either render a ProRes 4444 file for FCP or just use the project itself.

As far as it’s length, it’s difficult to ‘know’ because the length is very relative to the length needed to scroll the text at 60 or 120 lines per second.

You’ll find it as a Behavior for Text. You’ll need to switch it to the specific speed.

Well, wait a sec. You answered my first question (what do you have) but not my second – how will it be projected.

From what you wrote:
If you export your HD sequence to a DVD (and I’m assuming you MEANT DVD – as in a DVD player) it doesn’t matter what I think is best, nor 2k. You’ll have a 720×480 (or 576 pal) playback – cause that’s what DVDs are.

1920×1080 might as well be 2k, if you don’t have money for a post production house. That’s an academic discussion for the slightly larger size. And it’s REALLY an academic discussion if it’s going to be played back off a DVD player – it’ll be crappy SD and nothing more.

Decode is free in QuickTime pro. Can’t encode ProRes on Windows at all. (Turns out both of us mentioned Calibrated’s XDCam)

Ok, it’s definitely a rewrapped XDCAM file.

No, FCP isn’t able to rewrap it (you’d want an MXF file…and FCP can’t do that.)

Without the codec or the raw XDCAM card, your SOL.

So, here’s the bad news. It’s going to cost you $130 or so. Calibrated makes an XDCam codec for windows that will decode XDCAM>

Yeah, but you won’t like it.

Shoot the room (non moving camera.) Let everyone react, etc. Clear the actors off screen.

Have your actor walk through the screen with two people holding a greenscreen behind your actor. You’ll get perfect perspective and lighting (well, decent lighting – it’ll make the key hard), but now you have them moving perfect through the space.

Then all you have to do is use a keyer and garbage matte out everything else.

You need 10.6.6, the current version of Snow leopard.

I don’t think you can’t upgrade *that* academic version. You’ll have to pay them and buy another academic version ($295) – you’ll also end up getting four years of updates at this point.

It should be at the first screen on an OSX installer disks – the menu choice for utilities.

There’s also a brute force method of removing a stick of ram, and resetting the PRAM – easy to do on a MacPro, harder on everything else…

The problem is…you have timecode breaks on your tape. There’s the flaw. FCP is supposed to do exactly what it’s doing.

I don’t think it can roll across TC breaks the way you want. Tell your shooter (next time) to pad a bit extra, rewind into the good footage, and then hit record = continuous TC.

I hate to ask…are you sure they tried it in FCP and not iMovie? That camera IS supported by iMovie.

You definitely saw it under the log and transfer window?

If you’re sure – then two other things:
a) update FCP
b) Call that apple store back!
