On the interview noise: well, you use a 3-4 frame audio crossfade (+0) a the head/tail of a soundbite – giving a little fade in/out. This can be any of the thre types – as long as it doesn’t screw with how tightly cut it is.

On room noise/tone: The idea is to record people in nearly perfect/clean environments where it’s imperceptible. You also should record extra ‘silence’, known as room tone – about 30 seconds worth) in any room. This room tone allows you to hide the sound cutting in and out. It also allows you to add other speakers and make it sound like they’re in that room (along with a good reverb.)

Soundtrack Pro has ‘better’ tools for this stuff (including taking an ambient noise print (room tone) and adding it to a clip.

View the original media in FCP @ 100% – that’s one way to tell if it’s progressive or interlaced (there are other ways….) If it’s flagged incorrectly, FCP/Compressor may be handling it worng.

What is it and how was it shot?

Likely he accidentally renamed it (trashing it’s extension.

If you open the glow category in motion and right click on any behavior you can ‘reveal in finder.”

This will put you in “Macintosh HD\LIbrary\Application Support\Final Cut Studio\Motion\LIbrary\Behaviors\Text Sequence\Text-Glow\

Check the extension of the files (or if there’s one really screwed up) There should be two pieces the .molo and the .mopr

Apple limits the amount of access you have to MPEG2 and MPEG4 in the current version of compressor. Buying Apple’s MPEG2 codec lets you have QuickTime access to MPEG-2, but again mostly to create streams compatible with DVDS.

You might try looking at some of the Front end GUI’s for FFMPEG – such as FFMPEGx or iFFMPEG, but it’s piggybacking on open source tools (which in itself is fine) but not necessarily developed to hit your specific needs.

Speaking of which, what are your specific needs?

Try selecting all the clip and choosing “Make Mulitclip Sequence” – make sure you pick using Starting timecode (and this only really works if you used time of day timecode.) A sequence will be built based on that timecode.

Technically? You’re probably fine.

But, two things: first will you be so addicted that you don’t get work done.

And the serious one – Your system is meant for editing; which makes money. WHY put stuff like this on it?

Well, you have very compressed video (probably in the h.264 format) and you’ve rendered it – in a format that FCP can handle ‘well’ (probably DV or ProRes) and it’s not as compressed (which is a good thing.)

Video eats 1g/min uncompressed SD.

Click on the audio portion. F to match the FRAME back to the original.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to insert a track below and overwrite the video. Lots of re-editing will have to occur.

I don’t think this is a separate install. I think you’ll have to do a specific uninstall-reinstall to fix it.

I though it might have been a third party plugin – but the name makes it look like an adobe install.
