23.976. 24 is for true 24fps – and at a SWAG (Silly Wild A Guess), its likely your camera is shooting 23.976.

Don’t cut the clip. Just keyframe it (the scale + position.)

A different way that will work (but isn’t a copy and paste…) is to right click on a title you like as a starting point, adjust it in motion (things like fonts) and save it as a future title that will now appear in the titles area.
This is about the closest you can get in FCPX to a ‘favorite’

September 29, 2011 at 10:26 am in reply to: editing 1440×1080 footage on a 1680×1050 screen. Is this a problem? This shouldn’t be an issue – beyond that you’re not seeing a pixel for pixel representation of your images. Next time something is soft, zoom in to 100% and make sure your paused quality is 100%. It should look sharp (but you won’t be able to see the whole picture.

I haven’t kept up if either of them have implemented any mercury acceleration – I know all three (add AJA) were looking at ways to shoehorn some level of GPU acceleration onto their cards.
The Mercury engine works regardless of hardware; if you have the right GPU you get certain key effects for free – the GPU handles this extra load.
Generally, either card you mentioned, will have the same problem – you get all the real time mercury effects only with the right nvidia card, not via the output card.
The workflow is to run everything as RT as possible, switch to your output card (the BM or matrox) and then do a render/preview for output. So, in that respect, neither helps you.

September 28, 2011 at 2:42 am in reply to: How to compress to get the best out of multiple formats in FCP?I’ll suggest two tools:
Nattress Converters: https://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
Red Giant Instant HD: https://www.redgiant.comBoth will do some level of conversions for you.
1) I’d pick a format based on my output. In doubt, I’d pick everything to be the same format. If everything was shot interlaced 29.97, I’d work interlaced.
2) MPEG streamclip is fine. Compressor has superior (longer transcode) format conversions and scaling.ProRes 422 runs around 140mb/s , where HQ runs 220 (or so.) If you’re coming from HDV/DSLR etc, there’s no need to go HQ.

odd are yes. Do what michael says. When I’m in doubt, that’s exactly what I do anyway.

I’d suggest trimming it. While you could play fancy retiming games, trimming it will work/look best.
