I’m using HD footage from a sony Z1U, which is 1440×1080, but I’m displaying it on a 1680×1050 screen. I had certain clips that appeared to be soft and pixilated but when it was exported and played on a different screen it appeared fine.

Will the difference in pixels be a problem?

    What is your output though?

    SD-DVD?
    Bluray?
    Digital file?

    What are you creating?

Any of these can be fed into a projector, lets say, and displayed on a very large screen.

There may be some artifacts appear on the monitor screen in PP, because of its size, even the screen resolution on Sony Vegas can be altered from High Resolution to say “Draft Mode” ? but, when shown on a say Sony Bravia 46″ HD 1920x 1080 Monitor, (when edited at HDV/mpeg-2 avi 1440 x 1080 all should be well)

This shouldn’t be an issue – beyond that you’re not seeing a pixel for pixel representation of your images. Next time something is soft, zoom in to 100% and make sure your paused quality is 100%. It should look sharp (but you won’t be able to see the whole picture.
