  • It sounds like you have something seriously wrong with FCP – and I suspect the line:

[Frank Cassidy] “I had a lot of syncing problems with audio and video when I captured the video but I worked around that. I only mention this in case it is relevant.

So, could you please give a bit more details about that. Does FCP behave this way with a different project?

I can think of (at least) three ways to do this. Best is always a question of time/quality/money

    1) Use a Snell & Wilcox or Teranex to downconvert
    2) Output to a HD deck and reingest via the decks downconvert
    3) Send your sequence to Compressor and have it do the downconvert there (the switch David Weiss mentions is good, but will increase compression time)
    4) Drop your sequence into a DV sequence.

Is your View>Video Display set to NTSC firewire?
Is your external video set to all frames?

If you play your footage, does it appear on the handycam?

Can you be a bit more specific? Flickering how? During the capture process? How about after it’s in FCP? Are you viewing this on the Screen or on a monitor connected via your camera?

  • Have you tried skipping the export process and putting the motion file directly in FCP?

Figure Screen brightness, fans and HD access are your biggest eaters of power (along with how busy your processor is.)

I don’t know of anything that specifies how much is going where – but coconut battery will give you the health and some other statistics on your battery.

I got this to work on V5.03

I opened the XDCam card via Media Import. I cut 5 clips into a timeline. Then I exported an AAF.
In MC, I created a project, imported the AMA. Clips + sequence came in offline.
I used AMA to mount the card.
Last, I told relink to link to AMA based on name.

You might want to download and test v5.

Is it every system? I wonder if it’s the machine. I don’t have a MX02 handy, but if you want to put up a short QuickTime file on my idisk, I’ll try it on my system (I have both Avid & FCS installed)

4 hours is pretty long for a DVD – you didn’t need to go to jpeg – you should have taken it from PPro to Adobe Media Encoder and encoded it for a DVD. Since you gave Nero a pjpeg QuickTime, it then did the transcode for you – and that’s where you have problems.

Take the pjpeg step out and see if your work still freezes.

    Also, 4 hours, usually means a DVD-9

It looks like you have a mismatch between your raw clip and your timeline.

My guess is that you’re putting a SD clip into an HD timeline. Since the aspect ratios are different, it’s pillar boxing the sequence in the program monitor.
