Nope.

Set them as a stereo pair. Then they both can be keyframed simultaneously. And you can set the PAN at -1 (top clip left) or 0 (both clips centered.

You might want to run Font book and validate all your fonts. There’s a chance that there is a duplicate or damaged font that’s causing this problem.

What’s the original format? I’m curious if it’s full NTSC 720×486 or HD.

Have you tried the apple preset?

Wait – is this interlaced content? does the line flicker on/off/on/off?

I think you’re seeing what’s called the underscan area (outside of action safe) and viewing the upper field on a progressive display (the Plasma + apple screen.) There may not be much you can do about it. It’s part of the picture that’s not supposed to be seen.

Since it’s SD, you could even drop the data rate as low as 1mb/s.

That’s because when you exported from final cut pro, you did this:
File menu> Export Quicktime Movie
And you unchecked “Make self contained movie”

This created a move that was a ‘reference movie’. A reference movie REFERENCES your existing FCP media.

You want to do exactly what you did, except, choose MAKE MOVIE SELF CONTAINED.

Now, this will yield a file that’s HUGE – but self contained – it no longer relies on final cut pro. You can put this movie anywhere, on any drive. Drives that are formatted FAT 32 (most external HD’s that you buy are formatted this way out of the box) are limited to 4GB sized files. You have to reformat those drives as HFS+ if you need to put a larger movie there.

A is for Arrow
G is for Group tool
T is for Track selection

One thought – what’s the data rate you’re working at?
What kind of source (size, frame rate, codec, editorial tool?)
The data rate looks like its 11.7 mb/s, which might be a bit high depending on your starting point. You might be able to knock it down as low as 4-6 mb/s for an HD clip and get a file 1/2 as large.

Yeah, Something is running amok. Seriously, seriously amok, and it’ AIN’T FCP. Well, maybe not FCP. BTW, when you see that windowserver is that high…what’s your page outs/Swap used?

I’m going to bet that if you test a fresh system with a minimal install, that it’ll be fine.
And we have to try it – we need to see if your system DOESN’T exhibit the problem. Just a 1/2 day or so worth.
And if it works? All this will do is say that something is wonky on your boot system.

I have some brute force ideas- I don’t want to wade through everything earlier – there’s quite a bit of rhetoric in this thread (FCP/Adobe/etc)
I’m not suggesting this YET, but…. did you do a clean install earlier? Also, did you install FCS3 over FCS2? Or upgrade from leopard to snow leopard (vs. just a direct install?)

Sure, let me go for some old school voodoo too: could you run this at a terminal prompt:
kextstat | grep -v apple

This will show all non-apple kernel extensions.

Make sure you switch FCP’s Rendering option to it’s highest quality. Taking the Motion file to FCP is uncompressed (like the tiffs) until you render it in the timeline.
