  • Sharing FCP timeline with Skype

Hey everybody! I have used the iChat theatre option in FCS 3 many times and it works really, really well. Especially discussing projects with clients out of town/state/country, making realtime changes and getting immediate feedback. I was wondering if this is a possibility through Skype? I would like to have all my bases covered if a client ever asks. I know they could just download AIM and I could use the iChat theatre option, but I’m trying to make it so the client shouldn’t have to do anything but just log into their already created accounts (be it google voice, AIM, OR Skype). Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

SOrry, iChat Theatre only works with iChat. Not Skypable.

I run the composite video output + analogue audio into a DVCAM deck, and firewire that into a laptop. ichat/skype just thinks it’s a firewire camera. It’s a little fiddly to set up, but it lets me use the mixer to adjust the levels of my mic vs the timeline, and means I can see the output of FCP on my monitor as well.

You can do this, but you’ll need two macs. Old school sharing – plug FCP firewire output into 2nd mac as firewire -and tell ichat to use the firewire ‘incoming’ video as your video source. This should world with Skype too.

    Hi guys

Why not just get them to call up on skype and you share your screen ? Open up you timecode window and pow instant pc/mac connectivity – I do it nearly every day … If you just want them to look at the clean video out option just select that monitor out on the skype share screen selection …

Hope this helps plus it allows voip as well ..

I wanted to use iChat Theater but iChat seems to require an Apple Webcam. I have the composite output of a SD camcorder running through my MX02 to get the signal into my Mac Pro. I can use it with Skype or Google Talk, but iChat does not recognize the Matrox source.

Is there a way around that? My apologies for slightly high jacking this thread.

iChat only recognizes firewire/usb based input. at least when we last did it. Try running it through a firewire deck.
