Not better, Just a habit I picked up from the days when PSD didn’t have layers

Try this
Type your text in PS, Flatten the image, select all, copy and paste into a new alpha channel. Create a new white layer. Make a selection from the alpha channel by holding down the apple key (Mac) or Control key (PC) and clicking on the icon of the channel. Apply the noise filter to the selection, then the Guassian blur filter. Next, go under image, adjust, threshold. Move the slider back and forth to help create an inconsistant look to the texture. Apply a little more blur. You’ll probably have to play with the settings to get what you want. You may even have to create several of them and mutiply them using selections
Hope this helps

I’m assuming you have and image and you’ve applied a layer effect – Glow- to it. Duplicate the layer, rasterize the layer (Do this by creating an empty layer and merge the two. Now you can make a selection out of the image and the glow – apple click (Mac) or Control click (PC) on the layer Icon. Now create another layer and fill the selection, you have a glow by itself.
Another way to do this if your working with a very dark or black image is to apply a “Screen” transfer mode to the layer (Layer pallette, top left of the pallette, pull down menu with “Normal” in it. Often Times I will take my image, fill it with black, add a glow or some other filter and use a transfer mode to loose the image and keep the effect. Try some of the other transfer modes. You can create some awesome effects
Good Luck

Software to convert AVI’s to QTs.The reason I needed this, is I have a client who wants me to match some previous animations. The only samples they had were old AVI files.
Thanks again for the help

Never mind guys. I didn’t have the PSD file positioned on the z deminsion far enough away from the background. I have a beautiful shadow now.
Thanks for the feed back. Your comments helped me figure it out.
Thanks again

Right. I placed the PSD file in the same place as the text layer, made it a 3D layer, and turned the arrows down on materials for both layers, then made sure all settings were the same.
Text layer cast a shadow, PSD layer didn’t

Go to the image pull down menu > adjustment> levels.
At the top of the levels menu, select cyan. at the bottom you’ll see fields for output levels. In the first field (The one with 0 in it) Type in the number 83. Now repeat the process for Magenta nad yellow. This should get your Rich Black to the desired percentage. You can change the number in the First output field and check the results by using the info pallette. I figured 83 would get your CMYK to the 270% you’re looking for
Be careful. this will alter the color for the entire image. If you can select just the Rich black and adjust that independently.

Have you selected RGB and alpha from the channels pull down menu under output module settings?
I just ran a test and I’m getting an alpha with my PSD sequence

A couple of ways to do this. One is to use transfer modes, which are localed at the of the layers pallette. The other way is to use layer masks and paint out a portion of the top image.
If you’d like to email the image, I send you some suggestion.
