IF it’s all from a tripod in one location then $150 isn’t too bad for showing up and sitting there 6 hours. That’s $25 an hour to do very little. If it involves hand-held work, then yes, you’d wanta to offer more money than that to get good results.

At any rate, I hope he found someone but I doubt it came from the COW…this place isn’t too active on the weekends.

The problem is that iTunes is running something in the background that interfears. What, I don’t really know.

I guess by “trashing” it for a little while you prevented that process from running. Oh well, it worked!

Do you have a Tiger disc? It has version 4.7.1 on it. Put it in and open the “Optional Installs” file.

That will set you pretty far back in terms of iTunes features but it might be worth it to get Disc Utility back just until the next iTunes update comes around.

Do you have iTunes 6.0.2?

There’s some problem with it and Disc Utility I’ve heard. If you can go back to 6.0.1 that should fix it. Try download.com or someplace like that and see if you can download an old version. Erase your iTunes app and load the old one. (Your music and library directory are kept elsewhere, they should be fine.)

Then, I guess, just wait for 6.0.3 before you update it again. I would think something like this would get fixed in the next update since it’s a pretty major problem.

I don’t know if any of us could say for certain yet.

I am expecting what you describe to be possible. Be aware, though, that the Intel Macs use a different disc-partitioning method. So it will be impossible to have an external BOOT drive that can boot both PowerPC and Intel Macs. If you’re making a boot drive you’ll have to decide which way to format it and thus it will only work on one system or the other.

But that’s because each version of OS X (PPC or Intel) will only run on the correct kind of drive. I don’t think this affects either system from READING eithe type of drive. So both computers should be able to read media off of either kind of drive.

As far as I know, anyway…we’ll find out soon enough if it works in practice. (And if it does, which formating method of the two we should use.)

Motion does work like this, where you don’t import, but simply browse the Finder within your project. So perhaps Final Cut may eventually see a similar mode?

Or maybe not. It works well for Motion projects where you’re using a couple of single files, like photos or logos, but it might not work so well when you’re trying to manage hours and hours of video files, all with long, computer-generated file names. In that case perhaps it’s best that Final Cut work like iTunes, where the name you give a piece of media within the program can be differant than the name the computer gives the file to keep track of it.

I understand that you’re really only asking for a hybrid between these two, not an “all of one or the other” kind of thing, I’m just pointing out that so far Apple’s programs seem to have selected one method or the other…never a mix. But by all means, suggest your idea. Just because they’ve never done it exactly that way in the past doesn’t mean they never will.

I don’t know too much about USB mics, but I don’t recall seeing too many high-quality ones. They’re mostly made for IM chatting.

You can convert any mic to a USB signal using it so you won’t be limited to USB mics only. I’d suggest bhphotovideo.com as a good place to browse for mics if you don’t have anything in mind already.

Advanced 24P is intended to be easily removed for subsequent editing in a 23.976 FPS timeline BEFORE it goes to film. If you try transferring Advanced 24P video straight to film, you’re heading for disaster.

Given the self-ascribed beginner status of the questioner I was going for the simple explanation for what the modes meant…no so much a walkthrough of how to actually use them. Hopefully he’ll read the page I linked to and be able to put your comments into context.
