Import Folder Update?
Posted by Dan Powers on February 7, 2006 at 8:06 pmWhen importing a folder, it doesnt appear that FCP updates itself when there are new files added to the folder.
Anyone know of a way to tell it torefresh? Thanks

February 7, 2006 at 8:12 pmIt’s not a dynamic thing. It has to be a manual process. You have to import all the new stuff separately. FCP doesn’t directly talk to the Finder like that.
You could go to the Apple website and make a feature request. There’s always FCP 6!

February 7, 2006 at 8:19 pmThanks I will do that, but as I am a new convert to FCP and Apple, I dont know how they respond. On my last platform, they would only consider changes that were requested into the top 25 or so. It would be a great COW feature to have a Feature request list so that we could track interest and add our name to the list or at least have a list of descriptions of our requests so that when we submit we would be using the same verbage. Like cut and paste.

February 7, 2006 at 8:22 pmMotion does work like this, where you don’t import, but simply browse the Finder within your project. So perhaps Final Cut may eventually see a similar mode?
Or maybe not. It works well for Motion projects where you’re using a couple of single files, like photos or logos, but it might not work so well when you’re trying to manage hours and hours of video files, all with long, computer-generated file names. In that case perhaps it’s best that Final Cut work like iTunes, where the name you give a piece of media within the program can be differant than the name the computer gives the file to keep track of it.
I understand that you’re really only asking for a hybrid between these two, not an “all of one or the other” kind of thing, I’m just pointing out that so far Apple’s programs seem to have selected one method or the other…never a mix. But by all means, suggest your idea. Just because they’ve never done it exactly that way in the past doesn’t mean they never will.
