I own a dual 2.0 G5 with FCP Studio, from what I get in the apple website is that for $49.00 I could crossgrade to FCP Studio Universal. My question is: If my project media goes directly to a removable hard drive, can I go back and forth with the Project from MAc Book Pro (Laptop) and the G5, does anyone know if this is possible? Do I have to intall FCP STUDIO Universal on both machines?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I don’t know if any of us could say for certain yet.

I am expecting what you describe to be possible. Be aware, though, that the Intel Macs use a different disc-partitioning method. So it will be impossible to have an external BOOT drive that can boot both PowerPC and Intel Macs. If you’re making a boot drive you’ll have to decide which way to format it and thus it will only work on one system or the other.

But that’s because each version of OS X (PPC or Intel) will only run on the correct kind of drive. I don’t think this affects either system from READING eithe type of drive. So both computers should be able to read media off of either kind of drive.

As far as I know, anyway…we’ll find out soon enough if it works in practice. (And if it does, which formating method of the two we should use.)

[Jeff Carpenter] “he Intel Macs use a different disc-partitioning method.”

That’s the first I heard of this. Do you have any further information? I’m curious. How does a processor effect disk format, isn’t this mostly governed by the OS?
