“They told us that (and I’m not sure if this is true or not) that the software had “hooks” in it that looked for specific characteristics of the system and would not run unless specific qualified hardware was found. I’ve also heard that the HP workstations have a segmented PCI bus that the Dell hardware does not…Why Dell hasn’t done something similar in order to enter that market is beyond me…”
a lot of “software” looks for specific hardware elements in order to run or install, not just avid. and no, it does not matter what manufacturer, as long as the “specs” are fully met.
Dell does have segmented buses and even Quad Segmented buses and have had for a long time now!!! Please do not state something that you are not certain of! Do a simple search about the topic by yahoo…..
Avid simply has an arrangement with HP and voila. . . ..
is also easier to support, than multiple venders.

“I am one of those that sees it as a waiste of time. I have worked on too many NLEs that do not require me to enter and exit a mod to trim. It’s faster to just do it. The goal when writing code for an NLE should be to allow the editor to push as few buttons as possible for each task. For this reason there should be recordable macros for those repeated tasks. I havn’t seen much change in Avid-s interface since ’94 but I have seen other apps grow leaps and bounds. This is why they are no longer the industry standard. I shold not have to lasso to slip. I should not have to go into override mode to slide. I should not have to enter trim mode to trim or select which side I’d like to trim once in that mode. I should just be able to park, hit +10 and an i for in, an o for out, a b for both, ect. Tat said, I’d like to see them fix the bugs before venturing out into features more useful.”
Ahmen!!!
hate to say though, Avid is still the industry standard. you will start seeing more innovations and simpler “editing” after the integration of Pinnacle/Fast…

Wow, thought this was closed and only for archives still listed!
I use it often for Rotospline work, still find it tops.

Are you in a PAL or NTSC country? If PAL, then your field order is wrong. Also you should have the import settings checked in the Avid where it is being imported, it could be that the import settings are wrong.
Lots of luck!

“No JKL playback, and some other features as well. However they have some cool features like exporting your media straight from Liquid to MPEG 2 for DVD burning. Since Avid bought it halfway through production, I read the interface still seems a bit prehistoric, but the program itself is pretty good. ”
No JKL Playback??? This is not true at all, in fact the keys for JKL are defaulted to the same as in Avid. Avid bought Liquid halfway through production??? What are you trying to say? The Programming as well as product of the Liquid Line which used to include Liquid Silver, Purple, Chrome and Blue have a long, long line of history and stability as well as a feature set that Avid since followed on. Prehistoric is in the eyes of the behoulder……if the average user had found it to be prehistoric, it would not have reached the height that it had as well as challenging Avid in the Newsroom markets and Middle end Systems, nor would have Avid forked out Millions and Millions on products that were “Prehistoric”

Great Tip!
We are having the same exact problems…..

Hi, we currently have added a Symphony Nitris 1.02 and are waiting for the 1.6 version before we update. However, we are having problems with the Digital Output that there seems to be problems with the Audio slipping 1 frame from the video on output. We had 2 DigiBeta decks replaced and checked and they are without errors.
Did anyone see a similar sort of problem with the earlier versions of Symphony Nitris?

As much as I hate Avid, I think I could kiss them if they would revive Commotion. . . . .

nice thought. . . .
Problem is that the deck is jointly located in a server room that is
not in the same room as the editing system.Sounds like a bug to me!
