Can anyone tell me if the Dell 490 can run a Newscutter Adrenaline? The Avid website seems to indicate only the HP’s are qualified.

As far as I know, Adrenalines are only available from an authorized reseller who will only configure the hardware with the qualified HP hardware. When we bought our adrenaline we specifically asked to see if we could get it on Dell hardware. They told us that (and I’m not sure if this is true or not) that the software had “hooks” in it that looked for specific characteristics of the system and would not run unless specific qualified hardware was found. I’ve also heard that the HP workstations have a segmented PCI bus that the Dell hardware does not…Why Dell hasn’t done something similar in order to enter that market is beyond me…

Thanks for the reply, Erik. I’m sure you’re probably right on about the HP configuration; I just want to see if anyone has tried using this box in a pinch under the Avid radar.

Our re-seller supposedly attempted to do it because of our interest and couldn’t get it to work. Based on the disasters that occur when deviating even a little bit from the specific requirements (say updating your Quicktime version or graphics driver) of Avid’s more entry level products, like Xpress, it’s no wonder they have such strict requirements for their flagship products.

a lot of “software” looks for specific hardware elements in order to run or install, not just avid. and no, it does not matter what manufacturer, as long as the “specs” are fully met.

Dell does have segmented buses and even Quad Segmented buses and have had for a long time now!!! Please do not state something that you are not certain of! Do a simple search about the topic by yahoo…..

Avid simply has an arrangement with HP and voila. . . ..

is also easier to support, than multiple venders.
