All of these requirements are based on the particular network’s delivery requirements. You will find that while there are some defacto similarities, there is no industry-wide accepted practices.
So, if you were provided a master that would only be broadcast in HD and never go to SD, as to levels, there should not be any illegal levels since, defined by its very delivery, you have a digital path, through and through.
With the exception of possibly HDNet, you will have a hard time finding a network that is 100% HD only.

Actually, the reason ADTX failed was because it was infiltrated by the Japanese mob. As a result, its assets and cash were stolen. By the time the cops caught up to the criminals, the company was broke and could not pay its bills.
If you Google it, you will find that this made headlines in Japan. Very sad. They really had great gear but terrible management.

The thing that will really boil your blood is when you sit down with the person who wrote the technical requirements, and you ask them how they decided what those requirements should be, they usually don’t know. Usually it is plagiarism.
If you look at the actual reasons for some of these specs, namely luminance capped at 100IRE, you will find that this was necessary because analog ‘birds’ or satellites have an issue where if that luminance goes over 100IRE, it bleeds into the audio subcarrier, which then causes an audio buzz. Similarly, the same thing could happen with B & W TVs with tube electronics (not just the CRT).
Considering that I don’t think there are any distributors using a bird with baseband analog video anymore, I challenge these same ‘geniuses’ to justify continuing with this stupidity.
Similarly, with chroma, there is nothing in a either a satellite or terrestrial transmitter that has issues with chroma all the way up to 133 IRE. These limits were originally put in place to deal with the limitations of 1″ Type C and Color-Under tape formats in which either reds would sparkle, in the case of Type C (depending on the TBC, Zeus was the best), or the chroma would bleed, like you see most easily in the beauty of VHS and S-VHS.
So, don’t get me started. I think Bob and I should start our own video militia. Oh no, now the NSA is tracking the Cow.

Hmmm. Professional response. Everything I stated was fact with the exception of the humorous 4th Class Citizen. The term Avid personnel used at the unveiling was 2nd Class Citizen.
Is the lack of feature parity Apple’s fault? Is the instability of the Avid software Apple’s fault?
Apple moving away from PowerPC has to do with the inability of IBM to create a processor that has a low power, heat, and size footprint.

As to Mac vs. PC, ever since Adrenaline, Avid has purposely made the PC version with more features and stability. In a unique twist, Avid announced that starting with 3.0, the Mac will no longer be a 4th Class citizen at Avid.
Thus, if you are contemplating an Avid purchase, I would wait for the new hardware platform and 3.0. As mentioned earlier, you will be able to dual boot between Avid and FCP, assuming the new 3.0 works with the latest Apple boxes.

Yes, Premiere Pro support was announced last year. Well, it was “re-announced” this year and shipping early Q3. This will also include the enhanced Red support.
Most importantly, the new Premiere drivers for Mac will allow you to work in 10-Bit RGB with RT effects. So imagine offlining in FCP and conforming with Premiere with the help of AutoDuck. Quack.
Moreover, AJA will also deliver the ability to use the Kona/Xena in either platform. They are no longer locked to a platform due to a termination of a facockta licensing agreement with an unnamed party. This will also allow for Dual Boot/Bootcamp fun and joy.
Incidentally, Xena will also add DVCProHD support with the 6.0 drivers.
Lastly, AJA threw an incredible party tonight. My ears are still ringing. Great people, great friends, perfect evening.
