With all these nice thoughts, now the bad. Whenever Apple has a new motherboard design over the past 21 years, the first 4 months of its life typically suck. After a few dot releases of the OS, the motherboard is finally tamed. So step gently.
Though if you can get a 2x to 3x performance boost, one might step quickly.

The only thing you have to watch out for is that the D1000 hates losing the incoming signal. As such, you need to reset the input sync a little too regularly. Other than that, it is a great unit.

How about a way to use RT Extreme, but also allows a lot more ability to mix and match codecs and resolutions in the timeline.

I think Chris is trying to find relief from the Gamma issues that are currently present in the 5.x drivers for Blackmagic.
In this regard, the two products handle gamma quite differently. Blackmagic was relying on their codec to do the right thing. When they moved away from their codec and started relying on the Apple codec, that’s when things went wacky.
In contrast, the Kona cards have a specific setting for this in their Control Panel. In there, you can specify your gamma (601, 709, custom) and similarly for the color space.
It should be noted that with FCP 4.5 and the Apple codecs, one should lock both color space and gamma to 601 due to the fact that the Apple codecs under FCP 4.5 are not 709 aware. Keep in mind that 709 is specific to HD, just as 601 is normally specific to SD.

It was a feature that was locked to the Blackmagic Codec which is no longer really used.
