Kona2 vs Multibridge Extreme
Posted by Dkilgore on October 7, 2005 at 5:34 pmI’ve been patiently awaiting the release of Multibridge Extreme since it was announced. Unfortunately this has been the longest “3 Weeks” ever. Does anyone know what the holdup has been? I’m starting to lean towards the KONA2. I want to get everyone’s thoughts:
Multibridge Extreme vs. KONA2 (product quality, company support, reliability)?
How much longer for Multibridge Extreme and why the delay?
Finally, is Multibridge worth the wait or should I just go KONA2?thanks,

October 7, 2005 at 11:56 pmHi DK,
I am very confused by your post. Let me get this straight – you have HD clients, you have HD work, yet you are not doing any HD work because you want to wait for the release of a certain product ? I am sure that the Blackmagic Extreme when it is released will be wonderful. But the Kona 2 (which costs just over 2 grand) is out NOW, and it a fantastic, stable product. Won’t you make back the 2 grand on your HD projects by the time the Multibridge Extreme comes out? How can you afford to do NOTHING – let clients go somewhere else – instead of buying what you need now?I know that SATA II drives will be wonderful, but I have to work NOW to make money, so I have to buy something that is ON THE MARKET.
Buy the Kona 2 – make some money, then get yourself a new car.

October 8, 2005 at 6:59 pmI would go with the existing DeckLink MultiBridge HD no need to wait for Express.
This is a ideal option. It has far more features analog digital check out the site.
No way Kona 2

If you need analog you either add an Io or go with the Kona LH. But since he didn’t mention analog in his original post, I would still suggest the Kona 2 over the Multibridge Extreme. Kona 2 is shipping (has been for quite some time), is stable and tech support is incredible.

October 10, 2005 at 1:16 amMr. Mody is a child. Blackmagic makes excellent products, but the Blackmagic Multibridge HD is a converter box that must be used in conjunction with the Blackmagic Decklink HD card, which is a stand alone
HD card. The Multibridge HD will up and downconvert anything to HD so that it may go into the Decklink HD card. The Multibridge HD can even be used to go in and out of the AJA Kona 2’s HD ports. To give the impression that the Multibridge HD is a stand alone unit is simply ignorant. Blackmagic’s eventual release of the Multibridge with PCI Express will replace the need for the Decklink HD card (or a Kona 2 for that matter if you choose to use it in this fashion) – but the Blackmagic Multibridge HD is NOT an alternative to the AJA Kona 2 (or the Blackmagic Decklink HD for that matter). From the mouth’s of babes.

October 10, 2005 at 4:55 pmI posted this same question about 6 months ago when I eventually bought a KONA 2 card and I have never looked back.
The LH is a nice I/O option but if you want horsepower the KONA 2 is proven, shipping and very well supported.
