Thanks, guys. yes, David, you are right of course about deinterlacing a screenshot- I forgot to mention I also used screencapture software iShowU to make a QT clip from the webpage and got the same lousy results.
I resized in Photoshop but the results are still disappointing… maybe I should just go ahead and film the LCD-screen…

Thanks, Burt. Looks real good- but I want to be able to make something myself! And so I did. Not even close to Pro effects but good enough for my purposes.

Yes, tracer rounds seems the best option. I’ll mess around with the particle emitter and see what I can come up with.

Still like to know how I can achieve ‘blast-speed’ when applying Throw or other behaviour…

Followed your advice: duplicated the sequence and changed in the Sequence Settings-Compressor Settings to uncompressed 8-bit. Did not render but sent it straight to Compressor using 90 minute Best Quality.
I hate to say the blocks are still very much there… it seems there was an improvement but not dramatic.

I also noticed the aspect ratio was 4×3 as opposed to the 16×9 in the output of the DV sequence.(?)

Appreciate your effort and am really interested to learn how you get good dvd’s from dv footage. (with a thick layer of effects&filters…)

[Rafael Amador] “Lately I’m making MPG2 wit Short/Open GOPs and with the Peak bit-rate to 8.5Mbps.
Scenes with a lot of movement or transitions look great.”

I tried setting the peak rate to 8.5- no difference. What’s with the Short/Open GOPs- you create your own? You manipulate them? Please explain.

Update: my editor asked for Apple Pro Res HQ or 8-bit uncompressed. He found DVC Pro HD not such a good idea because there’s too much compression going on there…
