I want to use some 8 mm film and VHS material for a project I’m working on. My timeline is HDV. Output will be to sd DVD- for now.

What should I tell the guy who will do the digitizing for me? Just that I want QT PAL? Anything else I should consider?

[Imagine Video] “output will be to sd DVD- for now”

I’d have them capture at a higher res for future use, not to mention the hit you’ll take compressing so-so footage to QT Pal (you don’t state it, but I’m guessing you’d xfer it as DV25) then recompressing it again when you go out to sd-dvd.

I’d suggest capturing it at least as DVCproHD. It’ll cut in better with your HDV footage and also give you a better color space to work with.

    just my $0.02.

Update: my editor asked for Apple Pro Res HQ or 8-bit uncompressed. He found DVC Pro HD not such a good idea because there’s too much compression going on there…
