I know it’s not really a problem because final cut, avid, nuke, ae etc. display it 16×9. But when I show raw footage to people I do it in quicktime. And I know cmd+5 stretches the image a bit in fullscreen mode but the dimensions aren’t exactly right. I like things to be right, and this quicktime problem is like a loose tooth, I can’t stop playing with it till it comes out. -
sweet, you got it. it’s hold alt while clicking on an avid pane and all avid’s windows come forward.

thanks for the info Dylan. I tried the collapse tool this morning. Good to know about and would be perfect but it seems to only work on the video tracks.
I haven’t noticed the fcp source in and out marks causing the sequence to unlink yet. but that doesn’t sound like fun. I have noticed I have to render twice sometimes, once in the tab and again in sequence 2.

https://community.avid.com/forums/p/53314/298455.aspxI might not need nesting but I’ve gotten used to it. Maybe it’s the way I work. I’m making a movie that’s built almost like a sketch comedy show. I like to isolate each individual sketch in it’s own sequence. Plus, I’m using my editor as kind of a scratch pad to write and test ideas. Which seems to work better in different compartments. Keeps things cleaner. Then plug the sketch’s sequence into the movie’s sequence.
I really like cutting on avid but a lack of nesting might be a deal breaker for me. it’s like switching from layered compositing to nodal compositing, once you make the transition it’s hard to go back.

Hi jon,
it’s actually that I can see avid’s window panes behind finder windows or any other application windows. And I click on one of the pane’s like the source/monitor pane and only that pane comes forward, the bins, timeline, settings panes stay behind the till I click on them or the avid icon in the dock, and then all the avid pane’s come forward. I just want to click on any avid pane and have them all come forward.as for finder windows, I don’t know how to make them disappear when I click into a different application. If I find out how I will post the secret.

Hi Zane,
thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like a good way to really control which frames make it into the clip. If I want to replace a 4th frame instead of a 5th frame every once in awhile.I’m giving it a try but I’m new to smart folders and I don’t know how to search for files containing “1.png” and “6.png” Do you know how to do this?

nick that was great, it worked. And I’m definitely looking for accuracy. I got the idea from Shake’s global range setting. Where you can type in 1-16×5 and then it’ll render a flipbook with the frames 1,6,11,16. Would like that for FCP.
and thanks for the switching to frames TC tip. It’d be nice to be able to bind that to a key.

Thanks for the suggestion Jeremy. I gave it a try but it’s not exactly what I was looking for. It stretches out the frames to replace the others so:
frame# 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,etc.
effect>video filter>strobe – set to 5 becomes
frame# 1,1,1,1,1,6,6,6,6,6,etc.
and I want it to go
frame# 1,6,etc.
am I using it wrong?
